Les Voix Passantes
Les Voix Passantes
By Joshua Chalifour
Voices frequented us all
haphazardly toward
a path
where from between
the white
statues
confabulate.
Nearly evening,
let our park brown
(is revived with stalks).
The old fragrance toppled in
inherent 'til the evening of
that abandoned villa—
Silenced to let us
repel the shadow.
Let Us Repel the Path
By Émile Nelligan (translation: Joshua Chalifour © 2022)
Let us repel the path
Nearly revived
Toward our frequented shadow.
Let us confabulate
With all that is inherent
To the villa.
Between silenced voices
Of the old statues
Haphazardly toppled.
In the abandoned park
Where a fragrance stalks
From white evening 'til brown evening...
Refoulons la sente

Refoulons la sente
Presque renaissante
À notre ombre passante.
Confabulons là
Avec tout cela
Qui fut de la villa.
Parmi les voix tues
Des vieilles statues
Ça et là abattues.
Dans le parc défunt
Où rôde un parfum
De soir blanc en soir brun...
